The Friday that Gave a New Perspective to Mankind
Good Friday is a very significant day in Christianity, for Christians commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The holiday is observed during the Holy Week, as part of the Paschal Triduum which culminates with Easter Sunday. Based on what one reads from the Canonical Gospels, this was the day when Lord Jesus, notably ‘Son of God’, was crucified at john 19:42.
The day is considered to be a historic day throughout all realms of Christianity across the world. Roman Catholics, Presbyterians, Methodists, Orthodox Embracers etc. and other strata of Christians fast on this day to mark the departure of their beloved God. They abstain from eating meat as they consider it a sign of homage to the ‘Great One’.
The Altars remain completely bare. Candle sticks and altar cloths are removed from them. The Holy Water Fonts are emptied to prepare for the blessing of the water at the Easter Vigil. It is categorically ensured no bells are rung on Good Friday, or Holy Saturday until the vigil on Easter Sunday.
It marks a significant day in the history of mankind, for Jesus Christ is a revered figure across all sections of humanity familiar with his legacy and the sacrifice he made.
It is a day to commemorate one of the greatest ever sacrifices ever made, and that too for better things to come. Amen!
